My Best Memories at the University of Helsinki

There are so many memories from my student days that it is hard to choose the best. One moment that stuck in my mind was when the student organisation Kronos turned 50 in November of 1995. There were about 300 people celebrating at the event in the Old Student House, including the famous historian Eino Jutikkala. The party went on all night, and when I left in the morning to look for a ride home, the city was pure white from the snow that had fallen overnight.

During the evening we swore to each other that we would be at Kronos’s 100th anniversary. I calculated that we would be about 70 years old. That night gave me a perspective on life. Generations change but luckily some things – like student organisations – stay the same!
