‘Philosophy is an uncertain field’

When Salmén had reached intermediate studies in philosophy, he started pondering whether the field would shape his career. His studies had gone well. He decided to ask his professor Erik Stenius.

‘Stenius was shy and got confused. Then he mumbled that philosophy is a very uncertain field and wished me luck. He didn’t want to straight out say that I shouldn’t become a philosopher, though.’

Salmén has not given up on philosophy, and has never regretted it.

‘I’ve been into philosophy all my life.’
