My best memory from the University of Helsinki

My best memory is when I walked in the door of the Department of Musicology. All of a sudden, there were no right answers and wrong answers but something in between. No longer was there a need for black-and-white thinking. That was delightful.

The most important thing in my studies was not so much the knowledge part but the people at the university. Of course there were good classes and good lecturers, but you can catch up with the knowledge later on, you can't catch up on people.

In Musicology, there was a certain camaraderie between students and teachers. We were all on the same side, as it were. That was very nice, especially after I changed over to the teacher side. My studies also led to me meeting my wife, which is the most important thing to have ever happened in my life.
