My Best Memory from the University of Helsinki

The best feeling I had during my years at the University was when I comprehensively delved into contemporary history. Finnish independence and Finland’s development as an independent nation was a very eventful time from a multidisciplinary perspective. While writing my doctoral dissertation, I quickly learned that when doing biographical research on that era it was fruitful to place ethnological research, political theory and the global situation as a whole side by side. You had to follow several historical plots: there were wars, crises and the overcoming of those same crises, and a period of reconstruction. All this taught me to look at things from different perspectives in general—a skill that has truly served me well in my life after finishing my studies.
