The student newspaper’s editor-in-chief looks to the future

Antti Pikkanen started as the editor-in-chief of the Ylioppilaslehti student newspaper in July 2014.

‘In this job you can implement your own views and visions within the framework of your target audience.’

As an editor-in-chief, however, there is not much time to write.

‘It sort of takes away from the actual journalism work and becomes more administrative in terms of budgets and such. But I also wanted this kind of experience because I wanted to test myself.’

The future appears broad and broken up in a good way.

‘I only take the kinds of jobs which really have an impact and where I can improve.’

Antti Pikkanen thinks that his future work could in some way be related to innovation. One such job could come from the communications or marketing sector.

‘A magazine reporter’s business is tangibly coming up with material. This is in a sense similar to the advertising industry.’

Pikkanen sees that humanists have a lot to give the business world.

‘Humanists have creative skills. Sales people can’t get anything done if they don’t have anything to sell.’
